Full Immersion Language Classes in Nairobi

Immersion language program is the quickest and most effective way of learning a new language. A learner in a new language immersed most of the day in learning a new language in in and out of class situations. Sometimes, the learner lives in a host family where English is spoken every day, and thus the learner has the opportunity to use and practice the language in practical, day-to-day situations and activities.

What is an immersion programm?

A learner taking immersion language program at The Language School in Kenya can stay in a host family or with our experienced teacher's home, have three meals a day with family members, thus has the opportunity to practice the language during the rest of the duration of stay. The teacher will continue to instruct the students in practical situations during the entire stay.

The most immediate advantage with this option is that the learner is able to progress very fast in learning the language of choice and host culture. This is an amazing way to learn a language, fast.

With this option, a student can move from a complete beginner (European Level A0) to a fluent speaker (Level B2) in less than 100 days, and to native level (Level C1) in 200 days.

A learner basically takes up to 5 hours of class instruction per day, Monday to Friday covering a maximum of 100 Hours per month. This means it takes just 5 weeks each to complete level A1 and A2 (Level 1 and 2), and 2 Months each to complete level B1 and B2 (Level 3 and 4).

B2 is the minimum level required for university education in English speaking countries for non-English speakers. Average, learners take up to 6-8 months or more to attain this proficiency level required for university education abroad (Level B2 minimum) in English speaking countries like the UK, USA, Australia etc.

How long can one take to complete the course?

Our Classes

Nature of our classes

Our language classes are either individualized / private or in small classes with a maximum of 8 students. Individual / private classes offer one the comfort of studying at one’s pace. Fast learners are able to quickly finish their courses in record time, while slow learners are afforded individualized attention, ensuring that they are not left behind as it often happens in group classes.

We offer customized language training to suit different clientele such as professionals, students in higher institutions, students waiting to join local and international colleges and universities, new immigrants to East Africa and new immigrants to other countries. We also offer holiday tuition for students in schools in Kenya.

We have small groups or individual / private classes that are specifically tailored to meet your needs and convenience so that you can fast-track your learning and be able to speak a language in the shortest time possible. You are guaranteed personalized attention, where you learn at your pace with some of the most experienced tutors.

Studying in a foreign language

For professional and other specialized roles, most institutions and government agencies require a very high level of language proficiency, before they can guarantee one a position. For example, after a recent fuss about doctors struggling to communicate with patients, the UK’s National Health Service raised the English requirement to 7.5 on the IELTS exam (between C1 and C2 on the CEFR) for non-native speakers.

For educational purposes, most top UK and other English teaching universities ask for between IELTS 5 and 7 for admission to courses taught in English. But as a rule, to be on the safer side, IELTS Exam level 7 (C1 of the CEFR) is recommended. For level comparison, please refer to CEFR / IELTS comparison below.  For IELTS Levels, please check out this link:

CEFR language levels explained:

We use the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) to indicate the level of language understanding you should already have in order to start and get the most out of one of our courses. The CEFR system has 3 tiers: basicindependent and proficient

For an in-depth explanation about CEFR Language Levels explained go to http://gostudylink.net/

Some of our clients:

Some of our present and past clients include the private sector and the general public from different countries. A good number of them are expatriates living and working in Nairobi.

How many hours do I need to prepare for my exam?

Research suggests that it takes approximately 200 guided learning hours for a language learner to progress from one level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) to the next.

For example, a candidate who has passed Cambridge English: First (FCE), aligned to level B2 on the CEFR, might need approximately 200 hours of lessons and supervised study to prepare for the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE), which is aligned to level C1.

However, there are a number of factors that can affect how long it might take you to achieve your desired level of English, including:

  • your language learning background
  • the intensity of your study
  • your age
  • the amount of study/exposure outside of lesson times

The table below suggests how many hours you might need to spend to reach each level of the CEFR, but remember these figures are intended as a guideline only. You may require more or less time and support depending on your own needs.
